REHEARSALS:
Wed evenings from 6pm-10pm.

Sunday morning-afternoons from 11am -3pm.

An intensive course focusing on creating an ensemble of actors working with early modern/ low budget theatre practices.

The script will be edited to 90 minutes’ traffic of the stage, which means pacing will be swift and steady.

One of the performances will be recorded and uploaded to wlse.iloveshakespeare.com

A unique soundscape linking scenes and acts will be created by Steve ‘Fly’ Pratt and uploaded to Soundcloud.

The actors will showcase with 2 final performances at Wonder House boutique; and additional performances in another theatre.

What makes the course different?

Cue Scripts:
What on earth is a cue script? Shakespeare’s actors received a roll of paper (their role) with their ‘part’ written out and 3-word cues. When you hear your cue, you speak. You prepare your own role and knowledge of the play happens in play.

Platt:
A platt was hung up backstage to tell the actors the order in which they enter and what’s happening in that Act & Scene.

Blocking:
The dynamics of moving around the stage are dependent on the ensemble reacting to each other and making shapes using the number of actors onstage.
Stick work, voice and movement work enable this process.

Ensemble:
Shakespeare wrote for the players as an ensemble. We tell the story together and when on stage, everyone stays in character. We also encourage understudying the main characters.

A unique opportunity to learn and grow your skill sets: using cue scripts, plus handling Shakespeare’s language, and creating one of his characters. The stage time in front of an accepting audience enhances the experinece of this course.
