Scene Study Performance
with Acting Technique
with Alex Murphy.
There are 2 six week sessions of the Scene Study Series running from September to December. Each session is for 6 weeks.
This 6 week workshop is for actors that want to launch efficiently from the page to the stage. We get down to business, working with excellent scenes from contemporary play works, analyzing the text, rehearsing it and then performing the scenes for a live invited audience.
This is an acting technique class and a performance opportunity. Our primary business here is to get busy rehearsing and developing finished scenes at performance level. Though crucially, each week advanced technique work will go on during this cycle – using exercises and core principles from Practical Aesthetics, Stanislavsky, Second City Improvisation and Stella Adler.
The group will spend 90 to 120 minutes per week tackling a point of technique. A rigorous approach to script analysis and examination of the “given circumstances “ of text will be a ceaseless objective.
Each week will be divided into some warm up, improvisation exercises and then technique work with the group; then on to scheduled individual rehearsals over the course of the afternoon. Actors are expected to commit to additional rehearsals with their assigned partners, and with the mentor.
Finally, fully prepared scene work will be performed in week 6 for an invited audience.
There will be a maximum of 10 students admitted to this class. Please submit a resume and a brief letter of intent to firstname.lastname@example.org to gain admittance to this class.
