ReFocusMethod for Opera and Musical Singers with Tony Grahn

The most important thing for a singer after understanding and managing the technique, is to portray the truth, to move with the truth, to deliver a text and emotions as true. To get there, the singer need to be able let go of self-judgments, personal tensions, to find something beyond the technical control.

“It is the antidote to any acting training that binds the actor in a knot of thoughts. It clears all that away and is ultimately a practice that empowers the individual and encourages us to trust ourselves once more”.

ReFocusMethod for Opera and Musical singers is a systematic approach to free yourself up from self-judgments and the inner critic. You will learn how to deliver a song relaxed and focused on telling the story and thus deliver both text and movements as the truth.

In this course you will work with two or three songs of your own choice. You will be asked to pick one wish you feel comfortable with and one you find technical challenging.

Day 1.
After a short introduction to how and why ReFocusMethod we will work with exercises in finding and letting go of unwanted tensions. Next, we will work on where to bring your attention (focus) on during a performance.

Day 2.
Bringing the new learning and experiences from day one we will start working with the text. You will learn how to focus on the listener (the other character or audience) and thus getting away from your head and deliver the text as the truth. In the afternoon we start working with the music. Here you will bring the new knowledge in to your singing.

Day 3.
This day we will continue to implement the tools in to singing. You will discover how free and at ease you can feel during performance. Coming back to joy and play.
