Laban Technique for Actors
Inner impulse-outer action: building detailed character energies using the movement architecture of the Laban motion factors
Few things reveal the truth of a character more vividly than how they move. In this intensive workshop, you’ll explore the profound connection between inner impulse and outer action through the Laban Technique—an approach that empowers actors to translate emotion, intention, and psychology into embodied physical expression. Under the guidance of Anita Adam-Gabay, you will learn to decode and apply Rudolf Laban’s motion factors—space, time, weight, and flow—to create nuanced, specific, and alive performances. Whether you’re preparing for stage, screen, or devised work, this training will sharpen your awareness of how movement shapes meaning and transforms storytelling.
The Laban Technique offers actors a vocabulary for physical creativity—a clear, dynamic framework to move beyond habit and discover fresh physical possibilities for every role. Through guided improvisations, movement analysis, and character exploration, you’ll identify how energy, tempo, and rhythm shape a character’s behavior and emotional truth. You’ll learn to recognize impulses within the body, refine them into expressive choices, and connect those choices directly to text and intention. This work not only deepens your physical instrument but also strengthens the bridge between imagination and embodiment.
By the end of this workshop, you will possess a powerful toolkit for creating characters that are physically specific, emotionally grounded, and utterly human. The Laban Technique expands your expressive range, helping you access characters far beyond your personal movement patterns and freeing you from self-consciousness onstage. Join Anita Adam-Gabay in this intensive exploration of movement as meaning—and rediscover how to let the body think, feel, and speak.
