Peter Feeney

Visiting Artist / Teacher (2024 Term 5)

Peter Feeney has been a professional actor since 1994, working in UK, US, Australian and NZ Theatre, TV & Film. He runs his own Auckland Screen Acting school, the Actors Lab Studio, and is a guest teacher at Drama schools and for organisations such as MEAA, NZ Equity and SDGNZ. Peter is also a published author and has written numerous articles and several screenplays and books. His handbook on acting, ‘Acting and How to Survive it,’ was published in 2020 to great acclaim.
He’s just wrapped playing a guest role on Taika Waititi’s latest film ‘Klara and the Sun,’ working with Amy Adams and Jenna Ortega.

Acting Gym

Scenes

AM
We’ll learn then rehearse 2-hander scenes using the collaborative, fun and dynamic work out that is the Scene Alignment Technique.

PM
We’ll then film the scenes for learning purposes. Between takes Peter will come out swinging with some of his challenging vocal, physical and imaginative exercises to push your work further.

The aim of day one is to drill into your irreverence, spontaneity and risk taking.

MONLOGUES

AM
We’ll rehearse your chosen monologue from TV, Theatre or film.

PM
We’ll film your monologues with a pro camera and operator to Show Reel standard.

Our focus day two is on specific screen tools and the head game, so you can be unselfconscious and free in the moment, while still serving the writer’s intention.

Participants are required to purchase and read Peter’s book ‘Acting and how to Survive it,’ 

QUESTION & ANSWER SESSION

Time permitting we’ll end with dedicated time for questions from students about any and all aspects of the profession. Peter can discuss, among other topics:

  • Creating your own work.
  • The commerce side of the Art/ Commerce equation: treating yourself like a business.
    Career survival and stamina tips.
