Comedy Technique Workshop

Comedy Technique Workshop

with Alex Murphy

We’ll be working out with improvisation, monologues, scripted sketch work, play text, and stage combat.

We will rehearse and prepare scripted sketch work for live performance in weeks 5, and each actor will be assigned a comedic short-play for performance in week 9.

The class is a chance to experiment with comedic impulse, comic timing, and then looking at character through the prism of comedy. Actors will workout with exercises that explore and experiment with comedic sensibility, and then practice committing the necessary energy. All our work will be supported with the universal rules of improvisation, conditioning yourself to be spontaneous and to “think funny,” and then to rehearse and perform selections of comic text with the necessary discipline.

We’ll also spend a portion of our time drilling and then devising moderately challenging stage combat sketches for performance.

Intermediate/Advanced. Applicants for this class must have some training back ground. Please submit resume and short motivation letter.
