Acting for the Camera

In todays film world, you never want to be caught “acting.” To work professionally in the best of film and television world, you must, for each and every take on film get an audience to believe “you are who you say you are.”
This advanced level of the Mulholland Act for Camera cycle will zero in hard on a foundation for truthfulness and supreme relaxation. If you have taken the Introduction to Act for Camera already, or if you are a new student with some camera experience, this class is designed to take you deeper into pure act technique, and more challenging on-camera performance. The likelihood that you will walk away from this class with some solid looking material for your show reel is very good indeed. We will review the dynamics of “show reels” – what to do, what not to do, and what the market requires.
Behaving naturalistically, organically under the microscope that is the camera, that is the goal. It is the demand made by film work today. This ethos is the backdrop for all monologue, scene work, and objective-specific camera exercises. Each on camera exercise is utilized as an exercise in pure acting, additionally, the class is a chance for the actor to advance his working understanding of the technical challenges of acting for the camera. Each week we’ll run through as many challenging shot set-ups as possible. Actors will be assigned multiple scenes to prepare-to bring very ready to class. The primacy of a ruthless script analysis process will be outlined and strongly stressed. Also, we will examine fundamentals of good audition technique for the camera, and then prepare and “mock” audition the actor for a functional sense of the casting process.
All students will work on camera in each and every class. And you will always receive your digital footage within a few days of shooting.
