Acting for Camera and Creating your own work
2 day weekend masterclass with Peter Feeney.
Free your instincts with vocal and physical exercises, bringing a full body commitment to the work; flex your screen acting muscles; learn some new tools for screen prep and delivery; take some show-reel footage home. You will work on a short text on the Saturday as well as a short scene from TV or Film over both days. On the second day we’ll start with a brief discussion of the joys and challenges of creating your own work in TV, Film and theatre.
DAY ONE
ONE
Exercises to promote ensemble and connection.
Work on a short set text: warmups and exercises to bring the words alive from the outside in, utilising your imagination, voice and body. Transfer these skills over to your screen scene then –
TWO
Run all scenes; try different POC’s – action, Given Circumstances (e.g. who, where) explain and set some screen preparation tools/ homework for the next day’s filming.
Time permitting, do a deep dive into Character.
DAY TWO
ONE
CREATING YOUR OWN WORK
In the morning, 10am to 12.30pm, Peter will discuss three self-made projects with their creators.
All in the Mulholland community are invited to attend this part of the Masterclass FOR FREE – but we will take questions from Masterclass participants only.

We’ll discuss the lessons and challenges of self-creating work – what we wish we’d known before we started, and what we’d do differently next time. Our discussion will take in:
- Writing, envisioning, mood boards, pitch decks.
- Funding/ self-funding/ crowd funding.
- Lessons from pre-production, filming and post.
- What next? Promotion, festivals, promotion: how to leverage profile and funding for future work.

Tutor Peter Feeney
Peter Feeney has been a professional actor since 1994, working in UK, US, Australian and NZ Theatre, TV & Film. He runs his own Auckland Screen Acting school, the Actors Lab Studio, and is a guest teacher at Drama schools and for organisations such as MEAA, NZ Equity and SDGNZ. Peter is also a published author and has written numerous articles and several screenplays and books. His handbook on acting, ‘Acting and How to Survive it,’ was published in 2020 to great acclaim.
